On the 9th September 2014 Deakin University, Australia was the most highly honoured university at the 2014 Victoria International Education Awards (VIEA), taking home three awards including the top prize: the Premier’s Award for International Education Provider of the Year. In addition, Deakin won the awards for Excellence in International Education (University) and Excellence in International Education (Student Employment and Careers).
The Premier’s Award and the Award for Excellence in International Education were based on a broad submission highlighting a number of exemplary programs across the University, as well as the overall framework for internationalisation at Deakin, our Strategic Plan LIVE the Future: Agenda 2020. In receiving these awards, the University was commended for its longstanding commitment to internationalisation represented particularly through our overseas offices in Asia. This is especially relevant as we celebrate twenty years in India this year.
The VIEA award for Student Employment and Careers is particularly important for your students and how we collectively promote Deakin to them. This award was based on the success of the Deakin Internship Scheme for International Students (ISIS). ISIS is a program dedicated to finding internship placements for international students. This program has been developed in recognition of the specific issues international students face when seeking internships, and addresses these through tailored workshops that focus on employment strategies.
These awards come on the back of Deakin’s excellent performance in the 2014 International Student Barometer, where Deakin students ranked the University’s performance 2nd best in Australia for Career’s Advice, 5th for Employability and 6th for Work Experience. At Deakin we continue to focus on ensuring our students are job ready which can clearly be seen in these accolades. Our Deakin Job Shop is a leader in the country and provides a thorough range of service to students to prepare them for their future career: http://www.deakin.edu.au/students/jobs-career
