The University of York is a prestigious Russell Group university and has been welcoming students from all over the world since it was established in 1963. International students form an integral part of the community on campus, and currently 24% of our students come from outside the UK. Location 

  • Our campus is located within walking distance of the historic city centre of York, voted best place to live in Britain by the Sunday Times (2018).
  • Situated in the north of England, less than two hours by train from London, living costs are much cheaper than in the capital city. 
  • Safe and family-friendly city with good primary and secondary schools, and a nursery on campus. Some university family accommodation available on campus (first-come, first-served).

Entry requirements 

  • Selective university.  Most postgraduate courses require a 2:1 (upper second), although some programmes will consider candidates with a 2:2 and a couple of years of relevant professional experience. 
  • For undergraduates without eg A-Levels, we offer an on-campus foundation certificate through our International Pathway College (joint with Kaplan). 


Work opportunities

  • Placement year / year in industry or other work-related opportunities are offered in almost all of our undergraduate Bachelor's degrees.
  • 94% of our undergraduates are in employment or further study six months after graduating **HESA 2016-17


Finance and funding 

  • Partial scholarships available. Typical value £5,000 - £7,500.  
  • Pay your tuition fees in three instalments.
  • Students who complete a Bachelor's degree at York are able to benefit from an automatic 10% tuition discount on any Masters degree with us at any point in the future.

University accommodation guarantee

  • We guarantee single students a private room in accommodation owned, managed or approved by the University for each year of your course - not just Year 1.
