Bangor University has been nominated for seven prestigious Whatuni Student Choice Awards for 2016, including one for overall University of the Year.

Bangor University has been nominated for seven prestigious Whatuni Student Choice Awards for 2016, including one for overall University of the Year.

This follows another remarkable year for Bangor which has also seen it retain its position as best in Wales and in the top ten in the UK for student satisfaction.

Based on average responses from around twenty five thousand students across the UK, placing their views on the Whatuni Student Rankings website, Bangor’s students have responded so positively to their experience at the University that Bangor is nominated for Awards in the following categories:

  • Accommodation
  • Courses & Lecturers
  • Clubs & Societies
  • International
  • Uni Facilities
  • Student Support
  • Overall University of the Year

Last year, the University was named as the best university in the UK for its clubs and societies and ranked third overall for its accommodation.

Professor John G Hughes, the University’s Vice-Chancellor, welcomed the news saying:

“I’m delighted that the University has again this year received so many nominations in these Awards. The fact that we’ve been nominated for seven awards, including best university for courses and lecturers, reflects our focus on providing teaching excellence and all-round student-centred university experience. I’m pleased that our current students appreciate their time in Bangor and that so many choose to take such an active part in the life of the University. Coming in the same week that Bangor University has been ranked in the Times Higher Top 200 universities in Europe, recognition such as the Whatuni awards underlines our status as a top-tier university.”

Professor Carol Tully, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Students), said: “To have this level of recognition from our students is testimony to the hard work and dedication of staff in support services, Schools and Colleges. We are extremely proud of the support provided for our students by the staff in Halls, Student Services, Sport, the IEC and the SU and all other areas across the University who work so hard to make the student experience at Bangor so special.“

Simon Emmett, CEO of Whatuni.com parent company HotCourses Group, added: “The WUSCAs inspire and guide students of all backgrounds to make the right university choice for them. With the 2016 results so closely following the Green Paper and consultation focussing on student choice, teaching excellence, and social mobility, there has never been a more crucial time to collect and analyse student satisfaction ratings from across the UK.

“We’re very proud of the work our team has accomplished in order to produce this year’s rankings, which sees 14 new institutions included, and a 25% growth in sample size, as more students discover the importance of their own voice in changing policy not just at their chosen institution, but across the entire sector.”

The Whatuni Student rankings will be announced on 14 April at a ceremony in London.
