Cost of Living in the UK
Below is a rough estimate of how much international students spend during one academic year; however this will depend on the standard of living you will expect. You need to consider opening a new bank account and registering for a National Insurance Number. The cost of living will depend on whether you live in or outside London and on your own lifestyle.
The minimum living costs required by the UKBA are:
Outside London: £800 per month
London: £1000 per month
The following is a guide for the things you need to budget for:
When you first arrive in the UK it is advisable to take some money in the form of currency notes and some Traveller's cheques.
Make arrangements to have your money transferred to your account in a bank in your home country, which can later be transferred to your new bank account in the UK.
Make sure you apply for your Student ID card as many local shops, theatres, cinemas, museums and special fare prices are available on buses and trains.
