Salford has climbed 19 places in The Times Higher Education’s (THE) 2017 Student Experience Survey released today to rank joint 67th of 122 institutions.
It is great to see that Salford is now in the top quartile of all universities listed for industry connections. This shows the real impact that industry collaboration zones (ICZs) are already having in positively transforming the student experience. Salford has also ranked highly overall for academic experience (42) and student welfare (60).
This is a positive indicator of what can be achieved through incremental performance improvement, and with continued work, Salford can achieve the best possible outcome in the new Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) assessment, which will have such an impact across the HE sector.
The annual Student Experience Survey is unique in that it asks students to rate their universities by criteria they themselves have chosen about what they value most during their studies. From the quality of lectures and the standard of facilities, to the social life and industry connections available to them, the survey polls 15,000 plus undergraduates on 21 different aspects of university life. Each aspect is judged on a seven-point scale in which students are asked how strongly they agree or disagree with the statements based on their own university experience.
This year Salford excelled most in the categories ‘Good library and library opening hours (6.2),‘High quality staff/lectures’ (5.8), ‘Helpful/interested staff (5.8)‘I would recommend my university to a friend’ (5.8) , ‘Good personal relationships with teaching staff’ (5.8), and ‘High quality facilities’ (5.8).
With the exciting range of industry collaboration zone (ICZ) activity already taking place across the University, significant investment in the high-performing student advice centre ‘AskUS’, the fantastic accommodation offering and brand-new £55m New Adelphi building, Salford is confident that it will continue on an upward trajectory.
This latest success comes hot on the heels of our recent listing in the QS World rankings Top 200 International Universities with Architecture and the Built Environment ranked 36th in the world and Civil and Structural Engineering also in the top 200!
