About the University of Manitoba

Founded more than 138 years ago, and located in the heart of Canada, the University of Manitoba (U of M) is the region’s largest research-intensive and only medical doctoral university.  Here, 29,000 – plus students pursue more than 100 programs, including graduate studies.  The U of M is a member of the prestigious U15 group of Canadian Research Universities and it is internationally recognized for ground-breaking research in HIV/AIDS, functional foods, and Arctic climate change.  The university attracts top professors, and our students dominate in engineering and business competitions worldwide.  Close to 16 percent of U of M students are international, representing over 100 countries and contributing to the cultural diversity of Winnipeg, Manitoba.  Winnipeg is home to 780,000 people and composed of more than 100 ethnic groups speaking over 80 different languages.  It is one of the most affordable cities in Canada and is full of opportunities.

 At the University of Manitoba we believe in an exceptional student experience built on the foundation of innovative teaching that encourages students to learn, thrive, and grow both on and beyond campus.  Student can take part in over 100 service-learning, internship, co-operative education and exchange programs with the opportunity to travel and study abroad in more than 30 countries.  The international Centre (IC) offers programs and services to international students including orientation, advising services, inter-cultural programs and recreation activities.  Students have the opportunity to internationalize their education and gain cross-cultural experience beyond the classroom. 

The University of Manitoba Fort Garry campus is home to six residences, each equipped with furnished rooms and free high-speed internet.  Residence living offers meal plans, study spaces, lounges, laundry facilities and parking.
